What gearbox do I have on my Fiat Twin-Cam?

Post by menno »

Firstly, I would like to say hello.

I am running a Fiat Twin Cam Abarth engine in my Westfield. What a cracking little motor. Mine's running on rally cams, vernier pulley, twin 45's etc...

I have a Fiat manual box attached to it. I can not find a number on it so I do not know what the part numbers are for any spares?
I'll explain what the gearbox unit looks like and maybe someone can tell me the type of gearbox it is? And relating partnumbers so I can get gaskets for it......

Bottom of the gearbox has a removable sump plate approximately 25cm-15cm, held by +-12 bolts and an oil draining bolt just off the centre?

Oil filler plug is on the driver's side (RHD - UK). Its a very large female bolt 29mm in diameter.

I think thats all I can tell you? Thanks in advance for any replies.

4 or 5 speed? If its a 5 speed its very likley to be a 124 type gearbox. These were used in a few different Fiat models.

I have tidied up this thread to make it straightforward - which it is - and published a photo that should help. Thanks to those who offered help.

Form description of sump cover and filler that will certainly be a 124 Sport Coupe or Spider gearbox, could be anything from 1438-1608 (see photo) or even 1756cc units. The later 5 speed doesn't have a bolt-on cover underneath.

Most parts are common and one very good source I know of is website member and Fiat specialist Kelly Dicker in the USA (where they really still do have spares like that), email is:

Thanks for the reply Guy and everyone else.

That is exactly like my gearbox unit.

I posted a link with my previous post, which showed an exploded diagram of this same gearbox unit, with all partnumbers etc...
(Am i not allowed to post links on this forum :?: )

Once again, thanks for everyones input.

Straight from the OE owner's handbook, 1.65 litres Fiat ZC90 oil.

All Fiat dealers sell this.
