Fiat Uno Turbo i.e
my car started off as a 1.0 45-s with only 10k miles on the clock, I reshelled my old uno turbo which was too rusty to carry on in to it, I have learned a lot whilst building it and have enjoyed using it in the summer, it made it to the nurburgring and back with 8 laps done. also a couple of trips to santa pod rwyb day where I managed a best time of 13.5@ 105mph,
the current engine spec is
standard 1301cc bottom end
standard head
piper 270 fast road cam and adjustable pulley
garret gt2554r roller bearing turbo
walbro 255 fuel pump
pace alloy intercooler
330cc injectors
punto gt management mapped by fcp in bristol
stainless steel exhaust
K&N air filter,
inlet manifold has enlarged throttle butterfly
a few pictures:
how the car was originally
now
results from mapping
santa pod
round the nurburgring
future plans are to uprgade the engine with head work or building a larger engine either 1.6 or 1.9 sohc to make the car better to drive as there isn't much power below around 4krpm due to the turbo lag

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo i.e
I am now the proud owner of a GC 1.9l stroker engine
the power and torque is just brutal and is a massive step up from the old 1300 engine, I have done a excel comparison and the new 1900 has more than double the power in the mid range, peak is 302bhp and 303lbft of torque
engine spec is
GC 1864cc stroker cr 8.3/1
piper 270 camshaft
gc spec cylinder head with 39.5mm inlet valves 33.5mm exhaust
arrow precision con rods wossner pistons
garrett gt2560r turbocharger
bosch motronic 2.7 ecu
siemens deka 630cc injectors
walbro 255l fuel pump
radtech alloy radiator
pace alloy intercooler
mocal lamionva with remote mounted filter,
racetech oil and coolant gauges
Thank you GC for making it happen.

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo i.e
Amazing and i bet that would be absolutely awesome to drive. Wolf in Sheeps clothing just great.
I notice you take it on circuits, what do you do about oil surge etc. Do you run a baffled sump and or oil accumulator to make sure damage is not done in the twisty stuff causing surge?
Be a shame to wreck such a great engine.
Definitely see alot of work has gone in.
Enjoy the results

Just the standard sump is fitted, Guy has told me to fit an accumulator, which I will be doing very soon before it goes onto any track, there isn't much room left in the engine bay so I am going to try and conceal it in the passenger foot well or tucked behind the dashboard.

Hi Mark,
I see that you use a laminova oil cooler. Can you share your oil and coolant temperatures? Do they remain within the desired operating window under all load situations? (75 degC coolant and 85degC oil)
Best regards,
Charles

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo i.e
Yes I use a Mocal Laminova, its the medium size one which is supposed to be equivalent to a 16-19 row air cooler, so far I have never seen oil temps exceed 80 degrees and the large alloy Radtec radiator I am using keeps the coolant in the mid 70's and only creeps up to 82 when stationary then the fan turns on. I am yet to take the car on a track where I will find out if the cooling system is up to the job.

MODEL POST
Before and after comparisons, superb photos, detailed spec, response to feedback....
outstanding really and what this forum is all about...
I'm so pleased to have been part of this with the talented, skilled and well-informed young owner Mark S Beresford, without whose amazing knowledge of the donor parts (crank, block, head to name but three) I would have been 'lost' with this engine!!
Well done MB!

Retro Show 2019 I competed in the 1/4 mile run what ya bring Class C which is road legal tyres and under 2000cc with turbo or nitrous and won the class with a best time of 12.9@109mph, my friend Ben in his twin cam 8v powered white uno which you can see below set a best time of 13.2.
Video is from Bens twin cam uno with a 13.2 against my 12.9

Mark,
that's brilliant, the car looks and goes awesome. I really like the "clean" look for the unsuspecting.

Steven

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo i.e
I have wanted to get the engine to run at 74 degrees for a while as the original thermostat is 82 degrees, I tried drilling a hole in the housing which allowed the engine to run cooler on the road but on the track temps were around 80, drilling the bypass hole out larger just made the engine run too cool on the road,
I eventually found a 74 degree thermostat which fits into the housing and works perfectly. First line Part number is FTS104.74

Re: Fiat Uno Turbo i.e
I took the uno back to the Nürburgring, used my new van to tow it all the way there and back,
some pictures from the laps from ring photographers which are around the circuit
I wanted to keep an eye on engine temps and with the dta s60 ecu I can check the datalogs, coolant temps were usually 74-78 on track and after letting off on the long straight the coolant temp drops into the 60's, the large alloy radtec radiator doing its job.
The intake air temps were usually in the high 30's so I do need to uprate the intercooler as the boost was only set to about 0.5bar about 7psi, currently I use a pace alloy intercooler, outside air temp was about 8-12 degrees so the intake air temps were around 30degrees above ambient,
oil temps didn't exceed 95degrees, the image of the racetech gauges is at the end of the lap letting off after the long straight
oil pressure is not working as 1600 block has no provision in it. video of end of lap cooling down the long straight, after everylap I took the car straight onto the road for a 10 min gentle drive to cool it all down instead of parking up https://youtu.be/Tcw8DratOzQ
Video of the lap on youtube link below

Air temps were pretty cold and the track was damp in places due to the rain so I was being as careful as I could be, the last thing I wanted to do was crash into a barrier! The GP circuit was joined onto the nordschleife which apparently only happens once a year so I was pretty lucky to be there for it.some pictures from the laps from ring photographers which are around the circuit
