Does anyone know which way round this washer goes? its the one between the bell housing and the gearbox.

This same part is found in Lada gearbox too and it's orientation is frequently asked. Conical face of the thrust washer goes towards the main shaft's big front bearing...

Check "Transmission Thrust Washer - International Auto Parts" on famous video hosting service for more detailed info (there is always place for misunderstanding if something can be put in place in two different ways)
