Fiat 125s in South Africa
Hello to all Fiat fans. I am from South Africa and I own a 1970 Fiat 125s. This car was involved in a fire due to a fuel leak. The engine bay and inside of the car was completely burnt and destroyed. I bought this body ten years ago. I decided to fully restore it and bring it back to life. Pictures will be posted of the restoration process.

All rust was removed with rust converter. Red oxide was used to paint the engine bay and inside of the car.

hi Rishal,
You are taking on quite challenge, restoring a car that has lost the entire engine bay like that. Kudos to you for it!
Good luck with the job, there will be many here looking forward to updates on your progress.

Re: Fiat 125s in South Africa
Hi Tom
Yes this is a challenge for me as I am only 21 years old and will be building this car myself. This is the only 125s in Durban. My dad owned many fiats in the past and the best one was a 125 with a two liter motor. I grew up helping my dad maintain his fiats, so I will be building this one for him.
Regards,
Rishal

Very nice Rishal.
Keep us updated with good photos. Bet the weather is very kind to the bodywork there (except if you drive along the coast on a windy day I guess with those Durban waves).

Completely understood. My dad was our family's handyman and he took me out to help most of the time. Many great hours spent together. I think of him every time I take one of his tools in my hand to do some work on my own house...Rishal wrote:I grew up helping my dad maintain his fiats, so I will be building this one for him.

Re: Fiat 125s in South Africa
Good luck with you project.
The 125T was based on a model made only in South Africa called the "Scorpion". Some how one made it's way to NZ for our International Rally and some bright spark decided that copying it for our annual long distance (1000km) race would be a great idea. The rules required that 200 were produced but eventually only 140 odd were made.
They were basically standard 125s, lowered, locally made mag wheels fitted, twin 40 Dellortos and reprofiled cams fitted.
If you PM me your email I will send you the add on sheets for the workshop manual but I will be away for the next 10 days doing the NZ Targa Rally in a 124 Special T,
Allan

Just as aside I note that you car has a 5 speed gearbox. The 125T used the 4 speed box.

Thats me using a spray gun for the first time, painting the engine bay with undercoat. I have no experience when it comes to bodywork and spray painting, but the only way to learn is to do it yourself.

Wiring loom removed from another body and put onto my car. Wiring diagram from owners manual was used as a guide.

Re: Fiat 125s in South Africa
Next up was the braking system. I used a brake booster from another 125 with a brand new master cylinder. All rubber brake pipes were renewed. All four brake calipers were opened out, cleaned and new seals were put in.
