131 2ltr Oil Pump Strainer Discovery

Hi Guy
Further to my recent visit to you in my Morris Traveller, I stripped my engine and when I removed the oil pump I discovered lots of small wafer thin bits of aluminium caught in the strainer (photo), at least the strainer did its job. Prior to the strip the engine was running very smooth but had vibration from 2.500 upwards. With everything removed, crank, pistons, head and oil pump etc, I have inspected everything visible to me with the exception of removing the valves from the head and cannot find any signs of wear or damage. Prior to stripping, the valves and tappets were quiet.
The main and big end bearings show signs of only minor wear, the piston are in very good condition, I cannot see any damage to the oil pump. So I am puzzled as to where these bits of aluminium have come from as there are not that many parts that could let bits of aluminium get into the sump.
I bought the engine four years ago and was told that it had new main and big end bearings, valves and pistons, and looking at the condition of the engine I believe this to be true. .
My question is, have you ever come across the type of thing before and I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts.
Regards
Keith
