Hi all,
I'm currently having much difficulty in removing the old core plugs from my 2.0 TC engine.
Does anyone have a method, or general help and advice they could give me? As these seem to be stuck fast!
I've tried to peirce a hole in the middle of one to get a screwdriver in to try prising it out but this isnt shifting it?
Also, where can i buy new core plugs from? I'm hoping GC can help me here!
Thanks in advance
Dunc

Re: Removing Core/Freeze Plugs out of the block
Its usual to use a punch to carefully cock the plugs over so they release their grip and they can then be removed with pliers or long mole grips.
Dosnt always work mind you as some engines tend to have a cast in "seat" behind which interferes with the operation.
With really stubborn ones, i usually drill a series of connecting holes across the middle and this helps to relieve some of the pressure on the periphery so they can be carefully pryed out.

It's not a bad idea to leave a screw in the holes you have previously drilled on the plugs. Sometimes the plugs will like to go straight into the water jacket instead of being shifted sideways (I know it because I've been there myself), if you tie a piece of string to those screws you can easily "fish" them out if they happen to fall inside the block.
