X1/9 1500 Dyno Test Result

Post by mark allison »

I put one of our new exhaust headers and system on a completely stock FI X1/9 with a 1500 in it. We did a baseline test and got 65 hp and 69 ft lbs of torque. We installed the exhaust system and not only picked up about 7hp, but the torque curve changed. In stock form the peak torque was at 3k rpms. With the header and system (no catalyst) the torque curve improved and was still rising while the stock curve was dropping off. With the addition of the catalyst, the torque curve mirrors the stock curve more closely but still shows a nice increase. We actually made slightly higher hp with the catalyst installed. The final step was to install a slightly tweaked afm and we picked up another 2hp and 2ft lbs of torque.
On the final test, we hit 80 ft lbs of torque but hp was down about .5. Minor a/f ratio adjustment brought hp up but had a small affect on the peak torque. The torque increase is really noticeable in the midrange.

yes, I'll post them tonight from home. While it might not be a factor for Euro spec X's, the unit will fit cars equipped with A/C. The header is a stepper design, equal length tubes. The exhaust system uses a Hushpower muffler and weighs 18 lbs compared to 41lbs for the oem system.
