Lancia Montecarlo cam markings
Hi Guy,
After my recent Montecarlo head dramas that I discussed with you, I was looking around just in case I did need a new head for it. I came across a head that is supposed to have come from you in the past but the seller hasn't come back with a serial number off it to verify this. However one of the cams has the following markings on it - A44/4/377/M. Is this one of your cams, or do you know what it is?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Re: Monte cam markings?
Hang on, I'll have a guess-
A - Alquati?
44 - deg? Making them 308deg if 84-44?
4 - cyl?
377 - thou lift or 10mm in new money?
M - Montecarlo?
Am I close?

Re: Lancia Montecarlo cam markings
Thanks Guy. Do you have the spec of the 4M then please?
The ones I'm looking at don't quite look like the ones you've shown. I'm wondering if they're maybe copies of an Alquati profile?
Here's some pics, what do you think?-

I checked this CAREFULLY in the Alquati list before searching that thread and replying.
That code is the profile I have indicated. I cannot say whether your cams have been reprofiled by someone.
Alquati just loved lots of numbers, using complicated codes for the same profiles on different cars.

Re: Lancia Montecarlo cam markings
Sorry Guy, thought it was the 5M that you'd identified in the other post.
Would the 4M make for a good 'fast road' cam then?
If combined with a good 43/38 head, supposedly prepared by your good self, twin DCNFs (36mm chokes) etc - what would be a realistic BHP / torque figure to aim for?
Thanks again,
Nick

On a new build? I'd need a lot of information on the engine spec and ancillaries to remark on that.
On an old GC unit? The way some folk treat those engines - frankly - no idea!

Re: Lancia Montecarlo cam markings
It'll be a freshly built std bottom end with 84.6 pistons. CR will be somewhere near std for the Monte at 9.3:1. Twin 42 DCNFs with 36mm chokes on Alquati manifold. Ansa 4-2-1 manifold feeding into straight through 1 in 1 out silencer. Std distributor but upgraded to electronic ignition.
What I was after really was what gains these cams may offer over my std Monte ones. I spoke with you before about my engine spec and you reckoned it should put out in the region of 140bhp if it's well built / set up. So i'd like to know the potential of these cams to weigh up if it's going to be worth the extra expense / effort of getting them.
Thanks again,
Nick

Re: Lancia Montecarlo cam markings
The potential of those cams if in original condition and not worn on a 2 liter is over 170bhp, I have no doubt whatever about that. How well proven cams work depends entirely on the rest of the build and how the components are integrated.
