Fiat twin cam - 1367 cc

Post by Kev131 »

This is an engine capacity not sold in the UK/Ireland but I have a question that someone here may be able to answer.

The head gasket on my LHD Italian sourced Fiat 131 is gone and I need to know if a head gasket from a 1600 (1585) or 2000 (1995) twin cam will fit? Any ideas?

Thanks

Update - I have discovered from the Fiat 131 brochure that this gasket is unique ..specced to fit a 78mm cylinder bore.

I desperately now need to source this as I am planning to drive the car to Turin in 3 weeks time. The gasket may be the same as fitted to 1400cc Lancia Betas.

Thanks in advance

I'd very much like some pictures of this unit - esp with head off. I had heard of it but never seen one, thus pretty rare I guess.

I have no idea what cars it was used in either,

I'm pretty sure it was available in some Italian market 131's and beta's - my guess would be they reduced the displacement to come in under some displacement tax or similar legality.

Hi Guy - Unfortunately I was not around for the head gasket replacement but I do have some pics of the engine and old gasket post operation. I've added them to this posting. If you would like any other angles just shout. (just noticed under the preview function that only a portion of each picture is showing...???)

The engine itself runs sweetly as you expect from such a low mileage unit (31000 kms) - It keeps up with modern traffic with ease and has pushed my brick shaped 131 to an indicated 180 km/h. However it does not have the grunt of a 2 litre unit (as fitted to my Sport) and I would like a more powerful unit one day.

Thanks for those nice photos!

What is the standard bore & stroke on that? Accepting that there don't seem to be many around, it would be a great engine in a competition 1400cc class.

78mm x 71.5mm = 1366.6cc 1585cc engine with a reduced bore? I wonder about the bore offset on cyl 1 and 4? do these have smaller valves or a different head? do you have any pictures of the block and head face?
