Steering wheel buttons

Hi all,

I was watching some Touring car action at the weekend and I saw that they'd mounted things like toggle switches on ordinany "sparco" type steering wheels.

I thought this looked pretty cool so got to thinking about how its done.

The thing thats getting me is how the wires would come to the wheel. An ordinary horn connection is made through a ring connector. How would these additional buttons be wired in? Just free hanging wired around the column?

Any help, tips or ideas are greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ant

Hi Ant,

They use a coiled cable, similar to what you find on a telephone receiver. You can get 3 or 5 cored cables from Grandprix Raceware Direct - comes in .75mtr lengths.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Chris

Generally they have a super quick steering rack too , so the wheel doesn't have much twirling to do.

Thanks very much for the info fellas! Will do some looking into this.

I know there is a "quick-rack" available for this car from the states, but not sure it would be a good idea on the road - need to see how much use I get on there first me thinks.
