Post by toto »

Hello Guy
I have one question.
Can I put on this engine Fiat 1.6 8v twin cam (carburator), head from another engine with 16v.
Thank you

If the 1600 is an 84mm bore unit yes.

You can use the Tipo type head but of course you need to rebore and fit pistons with the VRs for that head. If you want it to 'fly' you do need agressive cams because it has huge inlet ports.

Get the head and let me know when you've got it and I'll tell you what to do next.

Thank you for the quick answer.
The piston is exactly 84mm diameter.
And you say that I can use head from Tipo 1.6 16v (full injection) yes or I can use from 2.0 16v?
I ask you because I don`t know is this new head will fit on the old block.
I think that will fit because this block is used for many Fiat and Lancia engines.
Tell me please which head to choose.
Thank you

I'd use the 2liter, I don't know the Tipo 1600 16v type, because although have seen dozens of 2 liter and one or two Tipo 1800 16v heads I have not seen the 1600 so cannot comment. The 1800 is the same as the 2liter so rule on cams v port size applies.

Sorry, my mistake not 1.6 16v I mean 1.8 16V.
OK
I`ll search 2.0 16V, but can you tell me, is it possible the valves to hit the pistons, when I put 2.0 16v head.
And another question which garniture I will use the original 1.6 8v or from 2.0 16v.
And about the belt, which type will be.
Thank you

Please read guidelines for posting in GC Q&A.

I've told you that you can use the 16v head but that is just the beginning. I'm not going into more detail now. This is not a 'live project' until you get the 16v head.

When you have a head and ready to listen to what comes next please post again. I want to see photos.

If you want pictures, this is a good place to start, the website of Middle Barton Garage, an old friend of mine,
