Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone records their outings. Using things like bumper mounted cameras, incar cameras, that sort of stuff.

If so, what sort of equipment is recommended or worth steering clear of etc.

I'm after opinions as I'm taking another trip round europe, and would like to get some bumper/low level footage of the alpine roads. I also plan to use this on trackdays, 1/4 mile runs when I do them.

Guy, I know this isn't strictly a "competition" question, but I figured some people might use the same equipment in competition. Hope this is ok.

Have pretty much pieced together my own kit now.

Consisting of...

Bullet camera
30gb DVR
5m RCA, split 1 channel for sound, one for video, + splitter for sound RCA so its twin channel.
5m DC Power cable for camera
Variable gain 12v microphone
DC inline switch
DC inline regulated power supply (constant supply rather than batter pack)
Hopefully some suction mounts for the camera, but I think they're in the car which I haven't got back yet. Fingers are crossed for that cos they're bloomin expensive!

I did a little test run of the camera duck taped to the bonnet of my daily runner and it came out really good. Can't wait to get it all hooked up on the MR2 and take it to Europe.

Have you considered the suction handles used to lift plate glass or windscreens?

Not personally. I guess something could be fashioned out of one of them.

I used to use this on my scooby, but now use a cage mount.

The videos before octover '07 are better. I've recently tried to use a modern mpeg2 SD card recorder but the results so far were not good.

BEfore that I had a dv tape oriented camera and the results were excellent

I've currently got Chase Cam mounts - they're the ones I'm hoping I left in the car. But if they're not in there then I'll be getting a b-hague one purely due to time constraints.

I've heard that the SD recorders are not very good for this sort of thing. I have a DV recorder and so far the results look great, especially for internet posting of videos. Should look ok on TV too, as long as the camera is up to the task.

I'm planning to set all this up for recording some of the Alpine roads that we'll be travelling on. We'll be doing the "stelvio pass" among others, and we're going in 11 days. Could all be a wasted exercise if I don't get my car back in time though.
