Hello,
I am working on my 124 BC1 racer with the 1608cc motor. Is anybody racing with that? I am about to put 45DHLA Dellortos with 36 chokes on it, is it gonna work or am I goona overcarb the engine?

Racing a 1608cc
Hi
I run a mildly prepared 1608cc, fueled by 40 IDFs. I may be the last one doing so in the states. I race in vintage leagues.
I am in required to comply with the SCCA GCR of 1972 which specifies 40IDFs. I am not going to be able to provide much help besides this fact.
My mechanic races a 1600cc Renault Alpine A110 and runs 45 DCOEs - I think. The car is well prepared, tuned and runs quite well on that set up. But I am not sure if this translates.
My "gut" tells me you could with proper focus on all aspects of the setup.

The nearest I have run is;
1585cc TC bored out to 1607cc (84.6 bore x 71.5mm stroke)
10.8/1 CR
Fully flowed, 44/37 valves
Sidedraft 45 DCOE 36mm chokes
Pair GC 3A cams 10.5mm actual lift, timed 110 deg, LATDC 3.5mm
Tufttrided production crank and steel flywheel*
Forged pistons, dry sump*
4-2-1 x 18" primary/secondary ex manifold, single straight-thru silencer
(* for reliabilty/safety, it was rallied at well over 9000rpm)
Gave 164bhp at 8000rpm, 124lbf ft at 5500, see p229 GC manual.
I see no reason why a well prepared 1608 could do close to that, although the longer stroke (80mm) might have an impact, would give less depending on spec, I would not go to 45 carbs without the right cams, although 44m valves might be bigger than needed.

I race a 1608 Fiat coupe in SCCA ITC. I have been racing this class for many years.

I race a 1608cc engined 125T down here in NZ. To keep the car in schedule K historics I do run the original twin 40mm Weber DCOE. Unless you are running very high compression ( I run 10.5 ) or radically big valves then I do not think you need 45's.
