Alfa Romeo 156/147 gear box question?
Does any one on this fabulous forum know if the internals of the 156 gear box are interchangeable with the 147 TS?
Thanks
Liam

What engine do you have in 147? and what year? You should find the boxes are the same but just have different linkages and front mount.

Re: Alfa Romeo 156/147 gear box question?
Hi Will,
I'm trying to build a closer ratio box for my Uno Turbo, I know that the Alfa 147 1.6TS 120HP gear box internals are interchangeable with Punto GT box I'm using and was wondering if the 156 box is too?

Re: Alfa Romeo 156/147 gear box question?
It should be as they only changed front gearbox mount and gear linkages between 156 an 147 models. Therefore internals should be exactly the same. Ratios different across engine sizes. Ts boxes are same. Jtd box is different but internals swap between 156 an 147 and v6 models are different but can swap between 156 an 147.
For more info I would contact Autolusso. They also break all Alfa models

Uno Turbo close ratio gear box build
Hello,
I thought I would give an update on where I am with my quest to build a close ratio box. I have managed to source a set of close ratio straight cut 3rd 4th and 5th gears along with a spare 3rd and 5th to boot. The ratios of the gears are as follows: 3rd 21-34 (1.62:1) 4th 25-31 (1.24:1 ) 5th 28-28 (1:1), these gears were made for an Alfa 156 BTC of the late nineties, some are new and some are used but all in v good condition. I had been informed that the 156/147 gear box internals were interchangeable with Punto Gt/Uno Turbo/Tipo 2.0 16v and Coupe 2.0 16v, I have also been on Bacci Transmission website and the part numbers for there Close ratio dog engagement gear kit's are the same for 156/147 Alfas as for the Uno Turbo 1372/Tipo/Punto etc.
I'm building this box up in a R reg 64,000 Punto GT casing with new bearings. I will be using 1st and 2nd from the Coupe 2.0 16v (ratios 1st 3.545:1 and 2nd 2.267:1).
Next, (again, from a good source) I have been told the final drive from the 147 1.6TS 88kw is the shortest of all Fiat/Lancia boxes. Ratio is 4.06:1
Any comment very welcome.
Thanks
Liam

I think the 500 Abarth uses the same box (albeit with a different bellhousing).
There was a short lived race series.

Hi,
Here are a few photos of the straight cut close ratio gears I have sourced.
Waiting on my Tipo box to arrive now.
