Problem with identifying twin cam engine and mating gearbox
Hello to everyone.I have twin cam engine pulled from Ritmo.I was told that it is 2 liters abarth engine, but I am not sure. The number on the engine block is:138B3.000 and the number on the cylinder head is:5992169.I searched and found for the block numder that it is form Ritmo(Strada II) 1100cc.For the cylinder head appear to be from Regata 100S.Can someone tell me the displacement of the engine.
The other problem is that i want to mate this engine to 131 gearbox. The number of the box is 131 bb 1a 1005.The mounting hole do not align.
I want to be excused for my English and my post is little mixed up,but i am not a writer.
Thanks.

I suspect it is 1585 probably from a 105tc but I'm no expert perhaps someone else can confirm?

Re: Problem with identifying twin cam engine and mating gear
It is not a 105TC or 130TC Strada, their code is 138AR.
I cannot ID the engine at the moment because someone has borrowed my book with codes in (Phil Ward's first book) and not given it back.
I have asked my Fiat dealer if he can help. You need to confirm you have read that 138B3.000 number correctly.
Take off the head and measure the bore and stroke if you want to be sure of the cc

Web Parts suppliers suggest engine code "138B3.000" to be Ritmo/Regatta 1500 SOHC, so not a TC at all.

Thanks Matt, I thought that might be the case.
A photo of the member's engine would help.........

the cylinder head appears to be TC though....???MattD wrote:Web Parts suppliers suggest engine code "138B3.000" to be Ritmo/Regatta 1500 SOHC, so not a TC at all.

When the respected member supplies a photo we can actually move this forward...

Re: Problem with identifying twin cam engine and mating gear
Hi!
Its transverse for sure...looks like Ritmo/Regatta all the way:
Distributor on end of inlet cam, coolant hoses between cams, external thermostat, and upper radiator hose fits in Ritmo.
125TC
My first guess would be a Ritmo 125 TC as it has slotted camwheels - while the 105 TC had solid if I remember things correctly.
The sump might look like (a slightly dirty) aluminium sump by looking at the brightest areas - as fitted to the 125TC - if it is steel probably from a 105 TC(or 130TC).
105TC/Regatta 100S
Exhaust manifold looks like 105 TC/Regatta - the 125 had a tubular manifold almost like the 130 TC.
The inlet manifold lacks the ABARTH inscription on cyl 1 runner - The 125 had an "abarth" manifold.
From the pictures it is hard to tell, but the holes in the crank for the flywheelbolts seems approximately same size as the dowel holes - 10mm = 1585
Water pump looks slightly different on the outside to 105/125/130 TC - they probably came with different designs.
Take out a plug and measure the stroke: approx 70mm = 105TC or Regata - if it is 90mm = 125 TC/130TC;-)
Good luck to You!

Re: Problem with identifying twin cam engine and mating gear
Thanks a lot for the information Remi. The oil sump is steel, there are some rusty spots.I am not sure, but the previous owner mentioned that the engine were twin carburetor, but it has been reworked to single carburetor.Took out a spark plug and measured the stroke from where the spark plug washer sits. The distance is approximately 120 mm and i assume the stroke is 90 mm,which means it is a big 2000 cc engine as i look at the book.
This is the picture of the throttle cable assembly actuating the carburetor. It is reworked.but it look similar to this for the twin carburetor.

Re: Problem with identifying twin cam engine and mating gear
Hi
When I bought my car (124 CC) it was said to me that it was a Regata engine in it (1585). The number on the cylinder head was 5992169 and the number on the block was 1492041.

Re: Problem with identifying twin cam engine and mating gear
5992169 is a 1585 head though.......is it possible that the engine has been assembled from various parts?
Are you sure you've measured the stroke correctly?

Re: Problem with identifying twin cam engine and mating gear
I measured the stroke and found that I am wrong. There are cutouts on the pistons and they gave me false readings. The new value is approximately 70 mm,so finally t he engine have to be 1585 cc.
