Lancia Thema 8.32 v8 engine carb conversion
I will be making new Lancia Stratos replica and want to use in it Ferrari v8 3.0 liter engine taken from Lancia thema 8.32. It is 32valve engine that is a downgraded version of some engine fitted to as far as i remember Ferrari 308(but i am not sure about it) . I would like to fit 4 carburators on top of it but i want the engine to be used in road car. What ould you suggest to use in this engine. I am aware that i have to make the manifold for this. I already have the engine with gearbox.
The point of this conversion is more to get a nice sound of the 8 barrel intake on a high revving engine but maybe i can get a bit more torque from the setup. The original fuelling is made on mechanical injection(i think it is K-Jetronic). I will control the ignition with megasquirt.

4 x 40 DCNF would be OK with that, cylinder capacity is only 375cc, it would be equivalent to putting carbs on a 1500cc 4 cylinder unit.

Ok, will get them brand new. Any suggestions for initial setup? The engine has now 215hp(if it helps).

40 DCNF - I would go for:
34mm choke - 32mm would be OK too but I reckon 34 would be more powerful.
120 main
210 air corrector
F21 or 22 emulsion tube should be OK if you want enrichment go F24
pump 40 or 45 would be OK
These jettings really not far off what I would use on a 1500/1600cc 4 cylinder TC.
Hope this helps,

Re: Lancia Thema 8.32 v8 engine carb conversion
Thanks for that. I will order the carbs set up this way and later we will see if it is ok. I will check it with wideband lambda sensor during road or dyno test.
It will take a while before I fit the engine in the car as i have to make the car first from scratch.
By the way, maybe you or someone on the forum knows if an intake manifold for those carbs is available for this Ferrari engine.

Hi Walezy,
Sounds like a very nice toy you're planning!
I had a quick look and indeed as you say the 8.32 engine was developed from the 308, but with different crank and some other stuff (valves etc) to make it less 'racy' and more 'luxury saloon'.
This means any Ferrari 208/308 and Mondial built between '73 and the moment Fuel Injection was introduced (around 1980) used this engine with DCNF40 as standard carbs.
You should have little problems finding a manifold, but I'm not making any guesses about price ;-)
regards
Tom

Re: Lancia Thema 8.32 v8 engine carb conversion
I did some search about the engine and 32valve head was used just with K-Jetronic injection so it will be difficult to find OEM manifold for this engine but maybe I can find some aftermarket manifold, will be easier then making my own.

Here are two photos of the engine, maybe not as good as it would have to be if those photos are placed on a cover of a magazine but all i have since my previous laptop was stolen. If anyone has any idea where can i get an inlet manifold for DCNF webers then please let me know, If i do not get it then i will simply make one.

Re: Lancia Thema 8.32 v8 engine carb conversion
Hi Walezy
I was surfing through the net, when I remembered reading your post. So with a quick search, I found a similar setup from Borla induction.
They sell a kit which includes 2 manifolds, ITBs having the same bolting pattern as Weber DCNF, air horns and airbox/filter.
It will be very logical to ask them if they sell the manifolds alone without the ITBs, as a separate part. Or maybe if you're interested, you can use the ITBs instead of the carbs, along with the OE fuel injection system. Trust me, ITBs DO sound like carbs.
Anyway, I'm not going to post the link here, so PM me if you're interested in it.

Re: Lancia Thema 8.32 v8 engine carb conversion
Note that the 8.32 is somewhere between the Ferrari 2V and 4V 308 engine. Since it is a 4V engine I do not believe that the 2V carb manifolds from early 308 ferrari's will fit (as far as I know all 308 carb cars were 2V cars).
I have one of these 8.32 engines and have compared much of it to the engine from a 308. There are many similarities but also quite some differences.
While it does sound good it has a different sound than the flat plane crank engines in ferrari 308s.
There are several stratos replicas that have 8.32 engines in them however I am not aware of them being as bolt-in as the Alfa V6's for example.
I have had the 8.32 engine for quite a while and planned several cars around it - finally convinced myself building a car because I had an engine was not the smartest thing. Now I have to figure out what to do with this very expensive paper weight : )
Good luck with your project.

Re: Lancia Thema 8.32 v8 engine carb conversion
I am making the car complete from scratch so it is no problem for me to make chassis that will make the engine fit there nicely.
Here is last Stratos replica that i made. The wheels are not original but for the new one i already have a set of proper wheels.
