Free revving for sound testing

Post by chrislandy »

Hullo,
I've been reading recently (and kind of jogged my memory a little as I've heard it before) that race tuned engined do not like being free revved or are they using it as an excuse to pass the sound test?

It's not a big issue but if on production rods I wouldn't want to rev them too high as there is no gas load on the piston. 5500 rpm shouldn't cause a problem..
