Replacing Bottom Ball Joints with Spherical Bearings

Post by Westfield »

Hi Guy

Im in the process of modifiying the front bottom ball joints on my Mk1 Punto, could you please advise is it best to use Spherical Bearings or Rod Ends. I have seen Rod Ends used on the top wishbones on some race suspensions but not on the bottom. Any advice would be helpfull.
Thank you

Rod will probably not be as good as a bearing alone but you need to use a bearing with enough working angle which might be quite hard to get in bearing stores. The threaded insert can crack or bend if too much force is appied to it. It is a good choice to use rod ends on the wishbones where it is attached to the chassis. M12 is enough for that.
