And this is the reason why I asked Miro about pistons.

They looks like non GC pistons, in my opinion much worse than JE from GC and I was a little dissapointed that Miro don't using a top quality parts, especially if he know where he can find it. I really respect him because he is a really helpful and full of passion Fiat and genuine rallys fan, as my, so I decide to make this friendly question to get him on the best way.

This type of parts are quite popular here in "starving Poles" TC fans group, especially in domestic rally cars replicas, but personally I never want to use it in my engine, I saw this pistons and it is not as much strong as they should in my opinion.

At the end, I agree with you GC, that you are the only of real engine builders who show really much details about parts. Personally, I don't know any other person who showing his CAD designs of pistons, steel FW etc. I am very appreciate for these things, I have a lot of your drawings, notice, tips etc. on my disc and this is a real mine of information for my but ANY of this things are not use by me to copy anything.

Supertech don't actually make race pistons fwiw, they're made for them in Argentina, that denizen and powerhouse of motorsport mfr..

As Starving Pole I am using only production rejects.
Lets race and see if my rejects beat your top quality parts on a race track.

Unfortunely now I using only a cheap, OE parts from 70/80's, so any racing events are out of my world.

If you feel bad when you read my post about pistons I am sorry, it was not my intention to feel you offended.

If in your opinion this case is not closed please send me a PM or call me, I don't want make a mess in this, good thread.

Initially we will put it on 40IDF but ultimately it will run on this baby ...

To prove there is a final benefit to all this work here is a recent picture of a car I build some years ago on a GC engine .

After many seasons of rallying it still is looking and working nicely ...

Miro, dear friend

never mind saying how long it's lasted. You get that sump off and check the rod bearings.

Ian Nixon (TC Lada) rang me today, poor guy just thrown a rod, GC built Nov 2012, raced flat out for two years then uprated with a full-spec GC 45/40 head, not a single look at the bearings in all that time. I warned him over and over.

Be warned, wet sump engines MUST have their bearings checked every FOUR EVENTS AND minimum mid season. Dry-sump engines every year.

I do say these things for a reason. It is cheaper to do it that way, trust me.

The engine is due for extended inspection and it will take place prior to the next event (in September).

Hi All

Interesting info from Guy regarding strip downs. So would the cost of a dry sump system pay for itself in 1 or 2 seasons just by reduced strip down costs?

Originally I was thinking about using the original Magneti Marelli AEC 106 Raceplex ignition system with this black, flat distributor on the 124

but than my research showed that this system was first produced in 1975 , while the configuration of my 124 Abarth is 1973 .. so the Raceplex will go to 131.

Incidentally, research showed that this system was standard factory equipment on 131 Abarth Rally Gr 4 ex-works and many Ferrari 312 , 126 modals and Lancia Stratos Turbo Gr 5. No wonder it is so hard to find.

The coil and electronic system that went with it was a rather curious, early electronic age device with large transistors diodes, etc., and included a Magneti Marelli designed rev limiter, tacho connection etc.

I think that instead of rebuilding it we will try to replace it with simplified (not so complex as the original) system without all the extras.

Anybody knows what 1973 vintage part can replace its functions and meet the specs ?

Looking good Miro. Why 40's? CSA ran on 44's. Can you share the rest of your engine specs?
