So just a few pictures of Front calipers rebuilt.
Still need to purchase some new front spings to fit on the calipers, but these are looking great.
Std pads have been fitted, just need to do a few more touching up to the paint to make look pristine and then ready for fitting to the struts.
Discs are 285mm Sierra Cosworth Vented discs. The disc will also act liek a small sapcer due to change of location of the disc.

So newest most exciting update on the list of projects is that my wife is expecting our second child. Oscar is only 10 months old currently. Very exciting times.
This is now spurring me on a little more again to get back into the Capri so we can get her moving.
It is also my 30th next week so i am still treating myself to a Bolt-in roll cage, but the other day i also purchased some caliper brackets to allow fitment and conversion of the rear brakes to discs.
All the calipers are ready to fit, so once the axle is ready i can get mocked up on the shell.
Next parts for order are and axle brace(Tarmac 8mm alu plate brace), this will be used to mount brake unions etc. I am also still on the look out for an alloy diff cover with cooling fins, then i just need to make up adaptors so that i can convert the original ARB mounts to allow fitment of droplinks.
Droplinks for rear ARB will be connected up to a custom rear ARB or my design which will mount onto the chassis rails, this also helps reduce un-sprung mass slightly.
The diff and half shafts will remain standard for the time being until funds allow.

Also looking for some new tools, i have my eye on a nice tube notcher, pillar drill and sheet metal folder. These will make it alot easier to get cracking with other little extras

Not much to update other than Roll cage is on order as it is my 30th Brithday today.
Order with rear caliper brackets and high tensile botls arrived early this week so this also means the rear calipers can be trial fitted with discs and calipers and wheels. This will now finally allow me to see how much space we have at the back in the original arches and if we have any clearance issues!

Thought i would add a few pictures of the Rear caliper brackets etc and trial fit on the axle.
I also have Metric Socket High Tensile Stainless botls to fit them on the car. My hope is that eventually i am left with alot of set sized Metric Socket & Standard Hex head bolts. Then i can make up a very simple small toolkit which will reside in the Capri if she ever requires work at the side of the road.

So just a small update then after this weekend!
Only joking i really had a very productive weekend and i am extremely grateful to fmaily & firends helping out for the whole of Saturday and most of Sunday.
In the end my two young cousins Matthew & Thomas who have both graduated from University this year after doing (Engineering, Mechanical & Naval), their sisters fiancee Jamie, one of their friends Theo, my mother for looking after my young son, my Dad and my lovely wife.
This weekend saw us completely strip the front end of the car back down to bare metal, do some minor repairs and welding, etch prime and then fully spray prime. Everything from the bulkhead windscreen scuttle forward is ready for paint, which is a massive up lift for the project.

Not only this, but the guys also helped finish off hand brushing the alloy wheel outer and inner rims ready for etch primer, then hand brushed etch primer and these were also then with the inner centres sprayed at the same time in grey primer.

The wheels only need a gentle spray over again and rub down before they can be painted. They look great.

Part of the modifications that i may have mentioned in the past is now a must, to explain i was going to run the 2.0 Pinto engine with standard radiator, however due to the radiator supports getting in the way i cut them out and now this is forcing me to upgrade for a much bigger unit. Still a little planning to do, but a Sierra Cosworth Aluminium 60mm core radiator will be fitted, then i will use aluminium to help divert the air onto the radiator. it is difficult to get right, but i have confidence.

We also cut off the bottom of the front valence so we could aid access, this meant we could get to alot of rust that we wouldn't have been able to touch.

All in all i am very happy with the progress we have made, now i just need to get a move on to finish things up front so i can paint colour before the elements ruin the lovely primed surface.

Just noticed, pictures seem to be in reverse order??

This weekend has been quite productive then.
We had great weather and were able to get around the back and underneath of the car and look at doing a final clean up before applying more layers of paint.
Where the etch had gone bad it was stripped back, re-etched. Then allowed to dry and we then applied a few coats of high build primer grey.
Once this was dry we then were able to paint the underneath in top coat black. Now the underneath really does look great.
I know we still have to do a little welding underneath e.g. floor plates for cage but since we spent soo long stripping the shell back it did not seem logical to keep the car in primer too long only for it to start going nasty again. After all etch primer is porous.
Once cage is in the joins under the car will be sealed up with sealant and then the complete underneath of the car will be sprayed in shutz/underseal to help protect it as long as possible.
Also sprayed a few others parts e.g. the bumper irons and the rear single leafs.
At least now i can start building up the rear leafs with PU race bushes ready for axle fitting trials.

In the down time when waiting for paint to dry we also hunted out the paint for the rest of the car, so to confirm we have satin black for complete interior and bonnet. Aluminium silver paint for the alloy wheel centres and outer rims. (Black touch up in the spoke dishes)
Also to my amazement we found 20litres of Signal Warning Yellow paint. That should be plenty for touching up aswell if i prang it at some point.

Going to have to clear out one of the garages soon as we are going to have a spraying day as there are now lots pf parts that need paint on alot of the cars, so it would be worth doing all at once. For something that is sprayed in a dusty garage the finsih is not that bad. For the Capri it doesn't matter too much as it is a track car, but it is always nice to see a shiny clean car.

Did a little bit(a real little bit) over the weekend on the Capri.
Took the freshly painted single rear leaf springs and pushed in the new PolyRace bushes with new inner sleeve. All coated in a good bit of copper grease.
Still need to finish off and paint the standard shackles ready to PU bush them aswell.
Also found that funnily enough i ordered an extra set of PolyRace bushes for the shackles so i will eventaully put together a more heavy duty set of shackles as the original ones are pretty flimsy. I have already had to bin one set as they were twisted.

So small update, just waiting on cage to arrive, i have been told it should be this Thursday/Friday. Getting quite excited now.
Also i have just bought some refurbished Alfa brembo calipers to use for the next evolution of the braking system which will use even larger 300mm discs. This is in anticipation of fitting a larger more powerful and heavier engine. This doesn't bother me however as i will have different setups for different regs for the future.

So next most high priority parts for purchase are:
- Aluminium Sierra radiator, this will be on order after payday this week.
- Bucket seat weld in rail kit which will be braced to the transmission tunnel and inner sill, side mounts will also be purcahsed at same time.
- Side mount bucket seats
- 6 point harness eyelet mountings to be welded in to floor

I also spent some time stripping down the complete 1.6 Capri axle ready for media blasting. Actually they will be sand blasted.
Therefore i now have 2 axles which are going for stripping and priming. I have fitted slave steel wheels to these to allow easy movement as they obviously weigh quite alot. Unfortunately my last attempt and cleaning one of the axles and painting failed so i am trying to save time now to just get it done.
It just would be very nice to get everything welded in before Christmas and before baby No.2 says hello to the world. I also would like to get the car on its wheel rolling for us to be able to start the next part of the build.

I know this is not the place for this picture......
But i had to share a picture of my sons first car which he bought at the auctions with his Grandparents.
He is already following in the tradition of tinkering with his cars, good lad. Only 13months old aswell.
I don't think he is going to run into problems with emissions on this one. But he is already asking for more power so we may have to ditch 6V in preference for 12V.
Won't be long before he helping me out in the garage i suppose
