I can pretty much follow the others there.

I like the clean rally-style interiors in Ladas. That is much better suited to this car. Factory materials insulate noise very little and usually they sit terribly when you remove them once. And there is always some parts dropping out here and there when you drive.
These cars aren't designed to be quiet. So making these cars quiet is almost impossible.

Ian - that handbrake cable setup inside the car is very common in rally Ladas which doesn't have hydraulic handbrake. Cables under the car are too vulnerable.

There is gonna be soon one Lada topic more here and it's gonna be partially like this. More to come.

Hi folks.

Just a quick refresh, sorry for the lack of technical detail, ...I don't have the time at the moment, just didn't want the thread going stagnant.

As you can see the Lada is rapidly approaching completion, Guy has almost completed the Stage 3 Fiat Twin Cam engine, so more on that soon! We're really looking forward to doing the engine install and commission. So in the meantime me and Jackie thought we'd take advantage of the rare crisp winter sun and push it outside for a bit of an interim photo shoot before the final stage of the build commences.(oh and give the shed a jolly good scrub)

That looks brilliant!! Love the dimensions of the Lada with its stubby nose and big rear overhang. I bet not many people know what it is when they first see it.

This is certainly the best Lada project I've ever seen am I'm not lying. Only true Englishman's could produce something like this. Ian's great craftmanship combined with Guys knowledge with Fiat TC engines; could there be anything better?

OK people another very swift update, sorry I'm not one for stopping and documenting work, a legacy from all the "Job and Knocks" I've been on over the years I think.

So then the new GC engine is now installed in its final resting place. It really looks so cool we keep wasting time just standing and staring at it.
I was (pre engine collection) thinking this final stage of the build would be a breeze because as usual I thought I'd covered all the engineering, but again due to lots of assumption I managed to create loads of work for myself by not mocking up every last nut/bolt/pipe/mounting and as usual that means re-doing everything 6 times (I've been doing this for years and I never seem to learn). Take note: - always mock up every last detail!!!

Engine runs beautifully at static although the Race plugs aren’t very happy being repeatedly stopped and started. I've (On GC's advice) temporarily fitted a set of BPR6C's while we get the car commissioned. I've yet to drive it under load as I need to engineer a suitable sealed air box/induction system but have no doubt about the perfmance this thing is going to generate.

I'm expecting the car to be totally completed by the end of the month and I'll endeavor to include lots of pictures and experiences as I learn all about the way she performs.

Also look out for The Retro Cars Magazine feature expected to be published in the April or May Issue.

^^ I was going to ask the same but then I thought it wouldn't be like Lotus Lada. It clearly had battery in original location. Of course it's better in the trunk, but what works, works.

This Lada is far better than than OE Lotus one for sure Nix! Car like this definately needs a proper roll gage, LSD an all other "must-have"-equipment...

It's a fair comment. I didn't initially think that I'd need to move it but as you can see its very close to number 1 primary, I could fit a smaller battery but I'm sure it would still come close to melting. However that aside I'm going to move it anyway as I need to use the space for the new induction system. I'm planning on putting a large duct in the offside front valance and routing the new feed through the inner wing under where the battery tray (used to) sit and then fitting a cold air feed clyndrical filter in that space.

Guy :- I need to know what size ducting to use upto the airbox? theres lots of options on the market most of them are 3 inch but most manufacturers only recomend this size for engines 1600cc's or below I've noticed that on Miro's engine he's used what looks like that size, Is that correct? I thought It should be 4 inch.
