Lada VFTS engine

Post by 3zeR »

Hi again,
I haven't been writing here for a long time, but I have something what maybe would be interesting for some of the readers (as it is not another EVO or STi engine that I've made ;) ). This is Lada VFTS 1.6 liter engine built according to the top avaliable VFTS configuration.
Basic details:
Ross Racing forged pistons, new and lightweight crankshaft + steel flywheel, 79mm bore, 80mm stroke, CR 13.0:1, fully machined and welded cylinderhead with bronze valve guides, 41/36mm machined valves, Schrick valve springs, 60HRC rocker arms, 328/328 still billet Havassy Motorsport camshaft, adjustable cam gear, small, alloy crankshaft belt wheel, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, double 45DCOE Webers, VW spark ditributor with ignition module.

This is the new engine for my customer VFTS (he drives it in polish rallies). I've built it using all the knowledge that I've gained from Peter Havassy (he is also my main parts supplier) and also experience from building VFTS engine for my VFTS group E1.

And of course some photos:

Thanks for sharing these results, which are rarely seen.

Very nice looking graph and it seems to have to pretty wide torque curve for race engine, it must be pretty "easy" engine to drive. I suppose the billet cam is one the key factors making good behaving Lada engine.

And it has almost 100 Nm/litre, it is the point where thing are getting pricey with 8-valve N/A engine if you want more power.

Thank you Guy for posting it, I forgot about this upload possibility.

As about the chart - I believe this is a good result, as the best 1,6 liter engine I know that Peter Havassy has made was 154HP and it is not possible to make more for safe, rally use. the useful range is from 4800-8000 revs, but the car misses the dogbox, so on the stock 4-gear box it is hard to drive. I hope the owner will buy the gearbox this winter for the next season and we will find the true potential of this engine. Tommorow he is driving in the last rally this year, so I am a little bit nervous about the engine and as always, about the whole car as this is still only Lada....
