Nice wheels!

Borrani is a well known manufacturer of (race) wheels that supplied the top of the Italian auto industry. They are famous for their single bolt wheels on Ferrari and Alfa Romeo race cars, amongst many others, even English cars. Wikipedia has some info about them if you want to know more.

Tommi

You do the best posts,I've never know anybody have such a knack of using english words so economically.

I had the same problem on my Dolomite Sprint some years ago with Dellorto DHLA's and the rubbers going flat and breaking up causing similar troubles to what you've described (these were only 6 months old from a well know supplier),I don't think its Inhearant issues with the design more problems caused with cheap products made in the far east. My friend has had the same set of genuine "Weber Bolonga Italy" made Misab type base plate seals on his Lotus Cortina for 30 years with no problems, the rubber is still suppal and they is no evidence of cracking or rubber deteriation at all,he simply gives them a quick clean with carb cleaner before reasembly,he also insists on twin coiled Thackery washers over those rubber ones.Correct settings for air gap when those are used is 0.030in/0.762mm if they are set to slack then you tend to get air leaks, too tight and you will get frothing in the float chambers.

Have you thought about Nylex plates instead? This way you can fit good quality O rings from known manufacturers ?

Doesn't alter the fact that it is a very well documented test and a very nicely crafted post!

Very interesting thread.

I really didn't expect the length of rampipes to have such an effect on the need to change the main jets so much.

As you said it's all about experimentation and every set up is unique.
My advice is: test different things. In the past years I've tested many things with these engines and not all of them have been succesfull. But sometimes you hit nail on the head when experimenting things.
Life is just a learning journey and nothing else. That's my motto.

As you may have seen I've been having issues, not sure if its jet related yet or not as my O2 sensor has been out of order!
Trying different jets, different distributor springs, different airboxes and intakes.
Still haven't found the sweet spot but I'll get there. It's a journey as you say.

Urbancamo wrote:Thanks Chris.

Further tests showed that small adjustments were needed to correct mixtures in correct levels in whole rpm range.

This is the setup I have driven long now it performs beatifully.

Dellorto DHLA 40L
32 mm chokes
7772.11 emulsion tubes
62 idje jets
155 mains
185 air correctors
108 mm rampipes
Approx. 42 cm from rampipe end to inlet valve

So it really needed fuel after ram pipe change, went terribly lean.

-Tommi
Great info thanks!
I see your mains had to go quite rich. Maybe this is why I was going lean causing detonation at mid-higher revs with the new rampipes.
Might be worth going up a few sizes as my carbs are 40's with 32mm chokes.
They seem to work well with the 53 idles but maybe I need to bump up the mains to a 150 or 155 to see if that clears the 3500 detonation range(145 now).
