Thanks Will and Charles, I'm really eager to get this engine built and back in the car so I can drive it again.

I pressed on (literally) with getting the guides in today, and started on the seat cutting.

I need spin up the valve grinder tomorrow to clean up the valve faces, and flex hone the guides to fit the valves. Then I think I will check the stem heights to see how consistent the seat depths are.

Thanks for the kind words Guy and Phil. It's been quite I while since I last visited GCRE. I think it was to have Guy run some flow tests on a Merc 320 cylinder head for my Crossfire, but I do remember the fresh coffee! I definitely need to make the effort to pay another visit, especially as I'm not that far away and have an ever increasing list of parts I need for the build.

Speaking of which, I've got a bit sidetracked with fixing up the old Wolf valve grinder I've had sat on the bench for years. I'll post up some progress pics later this evening.

Thanks Guy, I will definitely be up to see you at some point with a shopping list!

Having now got the head pretty much done, I spent some time refacing the valves (after having to rebuild my grinder) but was a bit concerned about the amount of material I had to take off the exhaust valve faces so will be opting for new ones. I have also spent some time prepping the crank and working out locations for the crank sensor as I'll need to commit to welding the toothed wheel in position before balancing. I'll post up pictures of that later.

In the meantime I have started work on a big wing sump as I want to get all the dirty fabrication out the way before cleaning everything up for the build phase. It's a composite of the various designs in Guy's books and the threads on this forum.

Next job will be to tack the oil pickup in place, reposition the oil return and start looking at extending the interval baffle to enclose the pickup.

Still need to drill some vent holes for the side boxes and make up the tops of the boxes, by have now run out of steel!
