Surprise, surprise ...

The red warning (shift) light is set at 7000 K and cut off si set at 7500.

Low ? Yes, but my max power is at is at 7200 (and I try to protect the engine) ...

Reving it higher does not make much sense, or does it?

This car looks every day better and better. You'll start him in the next Zubry Rally ? I can not wait to see this car live.

Hi all

It has been a long while since I updated this thread

Well here it is.

The only changes made since the last updates are:

1/ light windows from Plastics 4 Performance.

The windows are made from a 6 mm thick Lexan (polycarbonate) , are hard coated and thermo shaped ( with curvature fitting original glass). The windows come with FIA standards compliance certificate

They fit great and the weight saving was really surprising - ca. 30kg net.

2/ gr 4 tank from Rally Sport Development

The tank is fitted with a bladder - custom made by ATL _ and has FIA standards compliance certificate

I was surprised with RSD recommendation until I saw an original ex-works gr 4 picture.

This is pretty much the end - just few minor items ... like window holders for the windshield and rear window.

After 9 years of development (and 7 years on GC forum) is it really the end of a never ending story ...

We will see soon ...

Well ... never ending story is really never ending ....

So we need new project ...

Well, there is one ... I have undertaken to build a 124 abarth replica .

As I am very much against building a replica of a car that never was , I have decided to build a replica of a specific car :

124 Abarth gr 4 , winner of the 1973 Polish Rally driven by Achim Warmbold ad co-piloted by Jean Todt.

It is an ambitious project , but after all this is a never ending story

Hopefully it will take me less tan 9 years as with the 131 project.

Wish me luck ... and offer any advice you can, please

You can read about it in a new thread : '73 Fiat Abarth 124 Rally - project

Miro!

So good to see you back here.
The 131 has ended up a very beautiful car, and now you're moving on to the 124, eh? Well as long as you don't get bored.
Are you converting it to Independent Rear Suspension? I have a hunch you may have some spare parts still lying around for that.

Maybe start a separate thread for this project? Looking forward to reading about it and maybe add some of my own if you like.

regards
Tom
(oh and I can already see you deciding to change the bonnet from late US-spec big bulges to the correct Euro smaller BS-1 bulges. It's the sort of thing you'd do.)

Hi Tom,

A separate thread is a good idea and I hope you and others with knowledge and experience will greatly contribute to its content.

I am starting one right now .... '73 Fiat Abarth 124 Rally - project .

This thread, started on December 4, 2007 is hereby officially closed on August 28, 2014 with 45 pages of text and pictures, almost 119 292 views and 617 replies (entries).

I want to thank Guy Croft and all contributing members for their assistance in completing this project.

Without the technical knowledge you have contributed , experience sharing and moral support it would never be possible.

Thank you all !!!

Miro

PS: by October 14, 2014 the entries count was 125 279. It means additional 6 000 views ( some 130 a day !).

Not bad for a once almost forgotten and unappreciated Italian creation of Bertone and Lampredi.

It looks like we have made a small contribution to interest in 131 Abarth - a tree time WRC champion, which as my friends who make and sell 131 Abarth replica parts - seems to be skyrocketing over the last few years.

I am glad that this little "beauty-beast" has returned to good graces with fans of historic rallying , after years of dominating fascination with Porsches and BMW's.

Miro

PS: by January 2015 the entries count was 132 885. It means additional 7600 views ( some 100 a day !). Great.

Hope all reader find it useful and informative!

Miro

PS: By October , 2015 the entries count was 150 273 It means additional 17 388 ( still over 60 a day ) Incredible ....

PS: By June 2016 the entries count was 166 288 . It means additional 16 015 ( still well over 60 a day ).
It looks like we may have had something interesting here ....

Miro, could you share your exhaust spec with me ? I found a short film with your 131 and I was amazed what it sounds ! Could you tell me what silencers you have in your 131 ?

This thread is hereby reopened !

As the car has been rallying for all these years without any engine inspection or body corrections and following Guy;s advise the car has been temporarily retired for extensive inspection:

Body : Inspection of the structure, installation of additional strengthening structures, minor rust elimination, removal of all "civilian" anti corrosion protection , installation of a stronger safety cage

Engine : Complete disassembly and inspection , overhaul exchange of parts and components as required

Here are some pictures to show history and progress :

PICTURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES THE ENGINE AFTER CA. 10.000 RALLY KILOMETERS IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION.
A BIT OF POLISHING AND CLEANING , SOME NORMAL PARTS CHANGE AND IT WILL BE READY FOR THE NEXT 10.000 RALLY KM !!!

THANKS GUY !!!!

PHENOMENAL ENGINE BUILDING !!!

VERY HAPPY RACER

One more picture update ...

Note: don't be fooled : this is not a GCRE engine.

This is a 1.8 build for my 124 Abarth a project waiting in line for finishing the 131 Abarth first.
( see viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3278&start=165)

It has been put into the 131 just to fit all the ancillaries ...

The GCRE is waiting for springs , rings and stuff before being reassembled.

The timeline says about a month from completing the 131 overhaul. Seems like a century ..

Now that is a major overhaul! Well done, I can imagine indeed it seems like a century for your engine to return. Keep it up.
