Engineering masterpiece: Modified 'Integrale' piston

Just for interest - hey - could be one of a 'GC' series - to illustrate the kind of fabulous junk I get to play with, this a 16v Integrale 'donor engine' (not!) that came in recently.

The std (class size unknown) piston set has been taken from a Delta 1600 ie and then machined with a bowl like the Integrale 16v (no valve reliefs though!) and all the cylinders sleeved to accept them. Then on fitting the professional building the unit discovered to his horror that the skirts hit the oil sprays....

I trust you will forgive the giant photo which exhibits the workmanship admirably I think.

Other beauties include the sump 'bolted' to the oil pump housing with self-tapping screws (because the old bolts had broken off inside), half the bearings run, the cylinder head coolant galleries corroded to death..

Another good reason for being very circumspect about buying a 'used engine'. Or even accepting one gratis! By the time you have stripped it and discovered the entire thing is scrap you've wasted the best part of a whole day.

Nice "modifications" on those wrist pins as well. Did he use a sledge hammer to slam them in?

Golly - yes, never noticed that. Well done! Could be some anti-rotation device. Or better still a means of making a loose pin into a tight one.

They are still on the rods which are being junked.
