Engine upgrade

Hi, my name is Lappy, new to the site and looking for some advise please.
I have a '81 X1/9 1500 5 speed which I am about to re-engine. I have a Brava 1600 16 valve Twin Cam
I want to overhaul and install. This is a daily driver and needs to be road friendly, but want to get the most horsepower out of it.
Apart from the usual balancing , port and polishing I would be interested in ideas on cams, valves etc.
Any and all ideas appreciated.
