Weight Distribution Calculator

Post by hcd »

Here's a simple weight distribution calculator I wrote to work out the optimum
layout for my racecar. Have a play, hope it's of some use to someone.

MODEL POST!

What a fantastic tool Huw! You are brilliant at these things!

I actually think you should hide it and be patenting it!

Wow! Has it really been that long since the original Weight Distribution Calculator. I've recently made change to add CoG and corner weights as well as jut plain making it better. http://www.guy-croft.com is still a healthy referrer of traffic to my website so I'm hoping you guys will also appreciate this:

*************

The new calculator offers the following enhancements over it's predecessor:
  • More Workspace - 4.5 times more workspace than before to be precise.
  • Sharing - As before, you can share a link back to your project but now you can also embed the results in your website or forum.
  • Unlimited Objects - Not only is there now a ballast object but any number of objects can be added to your project so you can have two engines, two driven axles and four passengers if you wish.
  • CoG and Corner Weights - They're displayed right there on the workspace.
  • Selectable Plans - You now place your objects on a vehicle plan which you can change to represent your own vehicle.
  • Room for Improvement - This is one of the new breed of calculators offered by racingaspirations.com with scope built in to enhance the functionality without needed to go back to the drawing board.

I hope you find this calculator a useful addition to your toolkit and would like to remind you if you haven't already done so to register yourself on the site.

Hi Huw,

Thank you for making your app available. It is a very valuable tool. I have registered also.

Have you looked at Hyperco's app for suspension spring rate and wheel rate calculator. They include spring angle and shock height from extended height in their calculator. Might be something of interest to you.

Thanks for the feedback and glad to be of service. Have you seen http://www.racingaspirations.com/wheel- ... calculator. Looks suspiciously like Hyperco's app... But, it's better of course.

Thanks Guy. Hopefully everyone will also benefit from these recent updates as well:
  • Moment of inertia - The lateral and longitudinal moments of inertia are displayed within the calculator
  • Right to left bias - This has been added within the calculator's bounds
  • Front to rear bias - This has been added within the calculator's bounds
  • Switchable analysis layers - The corner weights as well as any of the above can be switched between by pressing on the multi colored analysis bar at the top of the calculator
  • More precise rounding - Better rounding of values at the correct places within the calculator code has resulted in far better precision
  • More components - You can now add the wheels to represent unsprung weight and there is a special CoG object that allows you add the total weight of the vehicle before or after the components have been added
By way of example I've included links to the analysis of my car as it was at Brands Hatch:

This looks like a great tool Huw, i will be checking out the site and joining.
Maybe it will come in handy for setup, although I will have to sort out my DIY scale setup for corner weighting before being able to use properly.
Nice one.
