Air Filter Heat Shield - Need Advice

Post by smckeown »

Currently I have an air filter that sits just above the radiator, and I know I need to do something to protect my intake temps from heat soak.

So I've always planned to have a heat shield and now is the time to build it.

Here is a picture of the air filter on the end of the airbox. I've marked out in red where I expect the heat shield will be placed.

Here's a design showing the scenario:

My first design is simply a plate with side wings, to stop the heat rising from the radiator and over the sides:

This 2nd design has taller sides and also a back that is curved to maintain a set distance from the filter:

Which design do you think would be most effective ? or are there better alternatives ?

I propose to have the shield made out of stainless steal next week, ready for the RR

many thanks

Is the 2nd one completely enclosed??

Have you got cold air feeds in place for the filter?

Hard to tell I admit, but design 2 just has sides, bottom and rear, just no roof. The air is fed from the grill right in front.

What about design 3: An extension to design 1 but has a more agressive scoop at the front to draw in more air from the bottom and sides. And unlike design 2, doesnt allow static air to gather and heat up.

I'd go option 3. Think that will give you the best feed of cold air.
