130TC flywheel

Post by Piotrek125p »

Hi.

In last week I watched a 130TC flywheel belonging to my friend. Unfortunely, I didn't make any measurements (thickness, radius, shape etc.), but I notice one thing. The 130TC flywheel weight is about 5.7kg. In Your 2010 book I found a photo of cast flywheel lightened from 8.4 to 6.2kg. It seems to me that this is a lowest weight of 2L TC flywheel lightened to Your spec (minimum thickness, radius etc.)

My question is. Did Abarth used the same material as Fiat in they 2L TC engines from 131/132 ? If they use a material like in normal Fiat TC flywheels, are they do a lightening spec. wrong from strenght point of view ?

Sincerely Piotrek.

The 130TC FW is 5.0KG.

It is thinner front-rear and has a lighter ring gear than the 131/131 models. I would not recommend using 5.0kg as a target weight for them..

So fitting a 130TC flywheel in 2L TC is not good idea, it is too light ?

Piotr,

you really need to read more carefully!

I did not say that. If you have an actual 130TC FW and get it balanced with the crank there is nothing wrong with that.

For me it sounds that 130TC FW is too light for 2L TC but maybe I am wrong by polish-english language mismatch.

I can buy in good price 130TC FW, crack test it, overhaul, balance etc. or modify my new, never used OE Fiat 131/132 FW and lighten it according to Your spec to get ~6.2kg (if I understand correctly this is the weight that I can get when I modify OE FW according to Your spec).

The weight of FW is in my opinion critical and a good choice depends in my opinion on experience with some weights of them in concrete engine, that why I ask You about it.

I am not saying that the 130TC FW is too light, merely that I would not machine a different style of FW to copy it.

Ok, so if this 130TC FW will pass crack test I will use it, if not I will modify my NOS OE 131/132 FW.

BTW. I don't want to copy a 130TC flywheel, in my opinion this is not worthwile, if I will use it I will do lighening OP according to Your spec from 2010 book.

Many thanks GC for Your help.
