Pulley Misalignment

Hi Folks,

I have an engine from a Fiat Argenta.

I have noticed that the water pump V belt pulley is approx. 1.5mm (0.060") forward of the crankshaft pulley, when measured centre line of the V to centre line of the V, looking from the side of the engine, taking the block front face as the datum. I have a thin 'paper' gasket fitted on the water pump, so nothing excessive there....

Does this mean I have an incorrect spec of water pump, or should there be a spacer on to the crankshaft prior to the pulley and/or the sprocket being installed.

Common problem I often have to deal with. Pulleys and pumps do vary in offset, sounds like your set is mismatched.

Take the pump off and press the flange closer to the body. Support the pump on the shaft itself - not the pump body - so that you can press the flange down the shaft. Put a spacer behind the flange so that it doesn't 'jump' and end up seized against the bearing housing.
