Delta 16 valve, valve in a Abarth 16 valve head

I recall reading on your site about cutting down the length of new Lancia Delta 16 valves in order to fit them to a Abarth 16 valve head as used on the 1980's Fiat Abarth 131, Lancia 037 and Lancia Montecarlo endurance car. I could not find the info on your site. After shorting the valve and grinding the valve keeper groove is any hardening of the valve stem end required?
