Fiat X19 Oil Pump Drive Gear

Reference: Fiat X19 1500cc Engine and the Oil Feed to the Skew Gear Bush.

On the front Auxiliary Shaft bearing there is an Oil Hole that seems to go the Bronze Bush.

However it does not line up the Hole that the Bush has.

In fact the Hole in the Bush actually faces towards the outside of the engine.

I think the engine is original and has never been touched.

Although the Bush is slightly worn it must have been getting its Oil from the excess around that area.

It just seems strange that a Feed Hole is in place and not used unless it was required for an earlier version of engine.

Many Thanks

Alistair

yes, I have never seen one where the feed drilling from the oil filter housing actually lines up with the hole in the bronze bush for the oil pump driven gear.

So I guess either the bushes rotate fractionally in-service, or the idea if thru-drilling was designed in but never carried out. I just looked at a very early 1608cc Fiat 124 crankcase and it's the same story.

That said there is plenty of vapor and splash in that region and it doesn't cause any problems. I would however be sure to lubricate it all during assembly.
