130TC cams into a Monte?

Post by nickp »

Guy,

Is it worth fitting 130TC cams in place of my std Monte ones? I'm fitting Megajolt ignition system over the winter so the distributor drive isn't a concern. It's currently on a DIY gas flowed Volumex head and twin DCNFs and makes 150bhp @ 6K and 142ft/lb at 4.5K.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

Hello Guy,

I don't understand because I have a 130TC in my Montecarlo. Except the pistons I don't see a lot of differences. Is it the point ?
Thank you,

Robert

Robert mon ami,

I think we all know the 130tc cams are a bit better than std TC cams, but in Guys opinion not worth the effort of swapping them. Which will do for me.

Nick,

I think that the FL is 0.6mm higher for the 130TC than the Monte.
I think that the opening is 238° for the 130TC but with 0.8mm of lash (Fiat spec) and with 0.4 (GC recommendation) you get about 276°.
I don't know the opening of the Montecarlo at 0.4mm...

Or on the other hand-

A Monte make 118bhp with a single twin choke 34 DATR carb and 9.0:1 CR.

A 130TC makes 'just' 130bhp on twin 40's, bigger inlet valves and 10:1CR (?? might be wrong)

Cams can't be that special can they?

Nick,

I understood you wanted to use VX head (same as 130TC) so bigger valves. So the possibility to get more filling ...
Sorry for my misunderstanding.

No problem Robert.

I already have a VX head on there and just wondered if the 130TC cams would be a worthwhile upgrade over the std Monte ones, but clearly not in Guys opinion. And applying my logic above then that actually makes a lot of sense.
