Hi all forum members ,

does anyone knows how to define the casting numbers on a Fiat 131 Abarth gearboxes , i have the following Abarth's which holds these numbers :

1- 131BB1A 1005
4417 996 2B

2- 131BB1A 1005
4417 996 4B

3-131BB1A 1005
4417 996 6B

so i dont know which is better , or what is the difference between them (they are all Abarth).

thanks

1. ALL THE 131 5 SPD GEARBOXES HAVE THE SAME RATIOS.

2. The 'Abarth' bit is ONLY the short shift remote assembly.

3. There is no such thing as an Abarth gearbox though I'm sure the Works cars had Abarth (close) ratios to put in them.

My emphasis in BOLD because no-one seems to know these brief details!

Hope that clears it up some.

Guy

through the years, I have installed on my car several remote short shifts, some stamped with Abarth and some not (from the Fiat Argenta).
As I guess, they are exactly the same, no?

only the one with Abarth is short-shift (or 'throw' = you don't have to move the gear lever so far to select gears).

I have 2 ABARTH stamped shifters, but something in there is broken. The lever has too much play. Anybody knows if this stuff is able to be fixed somehow? You know those shifters are very rare, and I'm willing to save mine!
Thank you guys!

There is a white nylon, self lubricating bush on the lower section of the "Abarth" remote selector shaft (it goes thru the lever shaft, on the bottom of it). This can become dislodged or worn or broken. If you pull the remote apart you will see what i mean. Its a straight forward repair. I recently repaired one. Good luck.
