Rod oil squirter holes -important?

Hello,

I just received some custom made connecting rods from Crower, and they do not have the oil squirter holes like the stock engines. Are these a must have for a Fiat TC? I know my Volvo engines did not have any until 1993.
I am thinking about sending them back and having the holes drilled, unless they are unnecessary.
