Wow! They actually do a straight cut gearset and a limited slip differential for my quattro.

Pity it costs more than the car!
Still, nice stuff all the same.

I have noticed over the past few weeks there has been a massive price increase on the Bacci Romano website, the sequential gearbox for the Integrale 16v has risen from 13800 euros to 15698 euros. Probably due to the Eurozone problems.

Quite possible.

I would say this regarding price - I would trade 40bhp on a 180bhp engine for a close-ratio gearset.

The difference compared with a production gearset (with very few exceptions) is like 'night and day'. Perhaps this outs the cost thing into perspective.

As for things costing 'more than the car' - this is invariably true.

I'd like to share my opinion and experience on Bacci component. True, Bacci has a lot of gearing, but at that price quality and finish of the gears, do not go!
Some friends of me, who also race with Bacci internals their have all ended up broken. They failed before the end of the season.

I do not want to offend anyone, but at the price that all this cost I much preferred to buy something of better quality, even more expensive. The race is over once past the finish line and not halfway.

For me a good gearbox is paramount. No need to have an engine with 200 hp, if unreliable or if every time you change the engine speed, drops below the torque.

In my case I had some bad surprises rebuilding my gearbox with Bacci internals. I had to open the box 3 times to solve Bacci problem.

Did you raise these issues with them?

Hi,

Yes, partially solved the problem with them.
After 3 phone calls I was able to solve the problem.
I must say they are very helpful.

I hope the gears are strong enough, apparently the weak point of its Bacci transmissions!

You are expert with the things you do and have made some justifiable technical criticisms but in quite a constructive way and have been in touch with the company. All firms get things wrong from time to time but you did the right thing contacting them and I pleased to hear they were responsive.

If you had not done so I would have binned your post under Protocol 11.

I totally agree that from time to time there may be a fault.

I hope this will help others to be careful when reassembling a gearbox, and if you have any doubts disassembled and seek the cause.

Thank you Guy.

First Time I've read this...... I too have a Bacci Romano Close ratio Gear-set for my 131 AB 5 speed gearbox. The quality/service/performance/reliability I cannot fault on that particular Gear-set. Yes their kits are typically less than half the Price of equivalent Colotti but I hear about those going wrong too.

Id sooner buy 3 Bacci sets than 1 Colotti.
